Name: Lauredhel

Age: forties

Location: Australia

Who do you live with? My partner, my son age eight, and our dog.

What is/are your disabilities? ME/CFS, the painful kind (oh joy), moderately severe. I can't work; I don't get out much, and use a scooter when I do.

A little about you: I'm overeducated (and way underpaid!), with qualifications in physiology, medicine, linguistics, and anthropology. I like books, my garden (though I don't really do the gardening, I do enjoy the looks and produce), and when I scrape together a few spoons I like to make my own soap. I'm white, fat, atheist, and the word most friends used to describe me before I got sick was "competent". My blogging has included this dreamwidth account, my now-defunct LJ, Hoyden About Town, and Feminists With Disabilities. Some of my bloggy hobbyhorses include bad science, medical paternalism, birth choice and breastfeeding activism in a systemic feminist framework, and of course disability politics.

My kid is a high-energy kid, who is into Lego, roleplaying games, monsters and mythical beasts, Harry Potter, Diana Wynne Jones, and Percy Jackson.

Anything else of note: I'm frustrated at the way PWD are expected to be the cared-for, not the carers, and at the way mothers are treated and talked about in much of mainstream Feminism. One of my pet peeves is playgrounds I can't access with my (currently nondisabled) child, and the absence of notice paid to carers with disabilities in discussions around accessible-playground activism.
